Trauma Therapy in Philadelphia, PA
You don't have to keep reliving the past. I can help you tell a new story about yourself and your life experiences, so you can finally move on.
Are you still haunted by memories of past trauma? When something reminds you of the traumatic experience, you feel like you're on high alert, with a racing heartbeat, tightness in your body, and difficulty breathing. You've been experiencing unwanted thoughts or feelings that pop up when you try to calm down and relax. Over time (or maybe even overnight), your beliefs about yourself, others, and the world changed, and you notice it's been affecting your relationships. On the rare occasion you can fall asleep, you have nightmares about the traumatic event.
Trauma therapy has several different key components:
Understanding the impact of traumatic events
Learning about trauma symptoms
Making sense of what happened to you
Changing your thinking and behavior to help you be present in your life
Whether you experienced abuse, neglect, or violence in childhood or as an adult, I’m here to help. I’m trained in multiple therapies that are highly effective (Prolonged Exposure Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy for adults, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for kids and teens, and Prolonged Exposure Therapy for adolescents) and have worked with many trauma survivors over the years. Even if you’ve been dealing with unwanted thoughts, feelings, and physical symptoms of posttraumatic stress for years, there is hope, and you can start to heal and feel better soon.
FAQ about Trauma Therapy
-
The types of therapies I'm trained in are time-limited (meaning that they are structured and focused) and short-term to medium-term.
Cognitive Processing Therapy is a flexible length therapy, typically 12 sessions, but it can be adjusted to be slightly longer or shorter depending on your unique needs
Prolonged Exposure Therapy is typically 8-15 sessions (usually 75-90 minutes rather than the traditional 50-minute session)
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (for kids and teens) is 12-25 sessions, depending on the specific needs and concerns
-
I've worked with many different trauma survivors, including children, teens, and adults. Whether you've experienced (or witnessed) physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, domestic violence, community violence, a car accident, the death of a loved one, or combat trauma, we can work together to help you feel better.

Trauma therapy isn't one size fits all. My approach to therapy is highly personalized and I want to make sure we work together to choose what's best for your needs. In general, I recommend Cognitive Processing Therapy for adults wanting to change their thinking and learn new skills, and Prolonged Exposure Therapy when someone has concerns with avoiding things that they used to be able to do, or when someone has become isolated due to increased anxiety. For kids, I typically recommend Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (which has been studied in children and teenagers).
