Therapy for Helpers in Philadelphia, PA

Let's make caring for yourself accessible and achievable, not just another item on the to-do list

Are you a doctor, nurse, teacher, therapist, or other helping professional? Do you come home feeling depleted, with nothing left for yourself, your partner, and your family? You've been waking up dreading work each day because the needs are relentless and unending. If you've been fantasizing about getting sick, just for a little while, so you can finally have a day off, you're not alone. Things don't have to be like this anymore, and there's hope for a better future, with work/life balance.

Having worked in healthcare for many years, I know that “care work” can be extremely demanding and rewarding. We can collaborate to help you feel energized, balanced, and excited, rather than burned out, overwhelmed, and exhausted. We'll use the science about stress, wellness, and burnout to help you break the cycle and set some boundaries to protect your time, energy, and resources.

FAQ about Therapy for Helpers

  • I've worked with lots of busy professionals and I really want to help you thrive in your personal life and in your career. Burnout is caused by the systems around us, and experiencing burnout is not an individual or personal failing. Most people go into helping professions because they are incredibly empathetic and caring, and were often in helping roles in families and communities long before becoming healers.

  • The healthcare system was not designed for you. Burnout is a manifestation of a larger systemic problem – our healthcare system in the United States (and elsewhere) is in crisis. What we call burnout is sometimes actually moral injury, which refers to situations where people are harmed when they are involved in, observe, or experience actions that violate their core moral beliefs. This term started with combat veterans (soldiers responding to actions in wartime) and is also applicable to healthcare providers who are not able to provide quality care and healing in a healthcare setting, due to broken systems.

  • Stress can impact the quality of your sleep. I have specific training and expertise about sleep and would be happy to help you develop healthy sleep habits, bedtime routines, and stress management strategies that truly help you feel better.
